🎯 RECOMMENDED LINKS FOR YOU:
I've been a huge fan of Kim Petras for years, but her latest album Detour (zip 2026) has left me feeling like I'm trying to navigate a new city without a map. I mean, I love Petras' music, but this album feels like a detour from the Kim I thought I knew. Maybe I'm just getting old and cranky, but I find myself scratching my head and wondering what's going on.
Where's the Kim I Used to Know?
The first time I listened to Detour, I was immediately struck by how different it is from Petras' previous work. Gone are the catchy, bubblegum pop hooks and sugary sweet melodies that made her debut album a guilty pleasure. Instead, Detour feels like a dark, moody exploration of sound that's more akin to a Berlin club night than a Top 40 chart-topper. Petras' vocals are still unmistakable – that distinctive, breathy tone is still very much on display – but the production is a whole different story. It's like she's traded in her candy-coated beats for a more industrial, electronic sound that's both fascinating and alienating.
I don't know about you, but I'm not sure I'm ready for this level of experimentation from Petras. I mean, I love a good surprise as much as the next music fan, but Detour feels like a jarring shift in direction that leaves me questioning everything I thought I knew about her art. Maybe I'm just a dinosaur who can't adapt to change, but I'm not sure I'm ready to take this kind of leap of faith with her music.
𝗢𝗳𝗳-𝗟𝗲𝗮𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗧𝗿𝗮𝗱𝗲-𝗢𝗳𝗳𝗱𝗲𝗿𝗲𝗱𝘀
Listen, I'm not saying Kim Petras's music is bad or anything. I mean, have you heard her collab with Sam Smith? That's some solid, catchy stuff. But when I'm driving through the city, and I stumble upon a station playing her new song, "Detour" (𝚣𝐢p 2026), I'm like, "What's going on here?" It's like, I love her vibe, but sometimes it feels like I'm stuck in a loop. I mean, how many times can you hear the same chorus before it starts to feel like a detour in and of itself?
𝗥𝗲𝗰𝗼𝗴𝗻𝗶𝘇𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗼𝗳𝗳-𝗲𝗻-𝗰𝗿𝗼𝘂𝘀𝗲𝘄𝗲𝗱 𝗣𝗮𝘁𝗵𝘀
If I'm being real, I think the problem is that I'm listening to her music on repeat, but I'm not really paying attention to the lyrics. I mean, who has time to actually read the lyrics when you're driving? It's all about the vibe, right? But sometimes I wonder, what if I'm missing something deeper? What if I'm just cruising along, enjoying the ride, without actually stopping to think about what's being said? It's like, I'm so caught up in the moment, I'm not even paying attention to the road ahead.
- I try to make more time to actually listen to the lyrics, to see if there's anything that resonates with me on a deeper level.
- I explore different stations and playlists to see if there's anything that speaks to me in a way that Kim Petras's music doesn't.
- I ask myself if I'm just getting stuck in a rut, and if it's time to shake things up and try something new.

In the end, I think the real question is, do I need to detour to find Kim Petras? Or is she just a part of the fabric of the music I listen to, something that's always been there, always will be there? I guess only time will tell. But for now, I'm just going to keep on driving, see where the road takes me.
