I'm not sure if I'm getting old, but the world of beauty pageants seems to have become more and more ridiculous over the years. I mean, what's next? But what really gets my goat is when these beauty pageants start to claim that they're not just about looks, but about empowering women and making a positive impact on society. Oh please, spare me the theatrics. If you really want to empower women, why not give them a platform to talk about something other than their hair and makeup? Why not have them discuss issues like poverty and education and social justice? But no, instead we get pageants that are more concerned with selling us products and perpetuating unrealistic beauty standards. It's just so...lazy. And don't even get me started on the fact that most of these girls are just using the pageant as a stepping stone to fame and fortune. I mean, I'm all for ambition, but at least have the decency to be honest about it.
