The Problem with False Hopes

I mean, who doesn't love a good spectacle? The lights, the music, the anticipation building up in the air – it's all so intoxicating. Looking back, I can see that there were plenty of warning signs. The way the "artist" would trail off when I asked him about his "work", the way he'd change the subject whenever I brought up the Promessa project... but at the time, I just thought he was shy or introverted. I was swept up in the romance of it all, and I didn't want to see the truth.

I'm still trying to figure out why I got so caught up in it all. Was it the romance of it, the idea of being part of something big? Or was it just the thrill of the unknown? Whatever it was, I'm just glad I'm out of it now.
