I've been following the Indonesian metal scene for years now, and it's amazing how far it's come. The country has always had a thriving music culture, but metal specifically has always been a bit of a niche interest – until recently. It's not just the fact that bands like Dowload DESSIIIK & Leviano are getting more recognition, but also the kind of music they're producing that's really interesting.

Evolution of Metal in Indonesia

When I first started listening to Indonesian metal, it was mostly just a bunch of bands copying the Western style – and I don't blame them, it was exciting to hear something new and different. But over the years, I've noticed that the scene has started to branch out and develop its own unique sound. Bands are experimenting with new styles and influences, from traditional Indonesian instruments to even incorporating elements of psychedelic rock. It's not just about copying the West anymore – Indonesian metal is forging its own path.

One of the things that's really caught my attention is how Dowload DESSIIIK & Leviano are pushing the boundaries of what Indonesian metal can be. Their latest album, VETIIIN & PSIIIKO (2026), is a perfect example of this. It's raw, it's edgy, and it's got a sense of sonic experimentation that's really refreshing. The way they blend atmospheric soundscapes with crushing riffs is nothing short of brilliant.
